FOML Facts

Browse the FOML Facts below to learn more about our organization and find answers to common questions we get. If you have further questions or required one-on-one assistance, please contact us.

Is FOML a non-profit organization?

Yes, FOML is a 501c3 corporation. All proceeds go toward supporting members’ needs and the limited operational expenses of the organization.

Why does FOML exist?

Our mission is to inform, support and advocate to the benefit of, primarily, our members and, indirectly, to the benefit of the entire Michigan community of Friends. We connect Friends to information, ideas, tools and, most importantly, to other Friends groups.

Is FOML staffed entirely by volunteers?

Yes, FOML is a volunteer-organization, with a couple of minor exceptions that involve support in website management and bookkeeping service. Board members are not compensated.

How do I volunteer for FOML?

You can volunteer either for a position on our board or as a project volunteer who shares a little time and talent in support of specific projects. Click here for details.

Does FOML have a physical office?

No. Our “office”is virtual in nature, with most communication taking place via Zoom calls, email and other normal media. With board members spread across the state and a limited cash flow, a physical office is not practical.

Do you have a mailing address and phone number?

Yes, we have a mailing address even though we don’t have a physical office. Our Friends at the Novi Public Library have generously agreed to have our mail come to their address: 45255 W. 10 Mile Road; Novi MI 48375. At this time we don’t have an active phone number since virtually all of our phone activity is outbound in nature. But, we are looking into affordable options for a dedicated number.

Does FOML offer financial grants to members?

Yes, we offer up to two Merit Awards and two Harriet Larson Founders Grants  annually to eligible members. Click here for details.
