United for Libraries

United for Libraries is a division of the American Library Association (ALA) and is a descendant of the former “Friends of Libraries USA,” and the “Association for Library Trustees and Advocates” (ALTA) organizations.

United for Libraries is a group focused on the advocacy of public libraries through the support and continuing education of Library Friends, as well as Trustees and Advocates.

The Library of Michigan (LM) provides statewide membership for all Michigan public libraries in United for Libraries (UFL), a division of the American Library Association. This means that library Friends across the state can access members only resources provided by UFL. This service is provided to you at no charge and is made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Library of Michigan.

UFL has upgraded their online learning platform to allow individuals to access the resources with their own unique login and password.  As a friend of a library in Michigan you can now create your own account and unique login. To set up your account follow these steps:

  • Visit www.ala.org/united
  • Click on the STATEWIDE ACCESS – FIND YOUR STATE blue bar
  • Scroll down to MICHIGAN
  • Click REGISTER to create your own profile
  • For future access you simply log in to your account under MICHIGAN

Be sure to set up your access to the valuable members only information provided in this statewide subscription.

If you have any questions about the UFL statewide membership contact LM at LM-LibTraining@mcihgian.gov
